Rolling Road Day

Power Engineering, Uxbridge

28th February 2004

What a great day! If you have never been to a rolling road day you really should make an effort to go. I met more guys in the club who I'd not seen before and we got to chat about cars and our mods while have a friendly "Who's got the power?" type competition. I was second up and set the pace with a stonking 345bhp and so I was really chuffed as this was my best power-run yet and I've now got the modding bug again and will be eyeing up a downpipe and high-flow cat at some point in the near future. All the cars produced good results with only one coming in below 300bhp. I've knocked up a table to summarise the results below, although I didn't record the RPM that these were obtained at. Sorry!

At our last rolling road session we went to Power Station in Cheltenham, and back then there were suspicions that their road was reading low. Despite not doing any more mods to my car since then, I managed to gain 16bhp on the Power Engineering road, so either PowerStation's road reads low, or it may have been the fact that it was really quite cold, and we all know how much difference that makes to turbo-charged cars.

What was nice was that Power Engineering still had my results from the run I did before fitting the boost controller, and the difference with and without is a wopping 43bhp! I think we should continue to use Power Engineering in future to check the results of mods we have done, plus they kept us fed with bacon rolls, hot dogs and plenty cups of tea!

Torque too low, problem with one turbo?

Outside Power Engineering

A gaggle of GTO's await their fate

Vic demonstrates how a dustbin can make a nice looking exhaust

Hmmm, funny looking GTO!

Funny looking GTO engine!

Andy's (AndyB) car being put through it's paces

My car (Paul Roberts) gets set up

My car has it's run

Next up is Adam Hudspith (Triple A) with a respectable 287 but quite a low torque figure. If this car was running right it would produce more bhp.

Next up is Vic (The Inquisitor) with the only UK spec car in attendance

Then we have Mark (GTO Nemesis)

"...I used to be a street sweeper you know..."

Next up is Martyn (Roadkill). Show us your turbo's again Martyn! (He's got a couple of turbos off an Impreza he's going to fit and showed them to everyone present at least three times!) ;-)

Members of the "Gay Porn Amateur Videographers Association" film the action

"Hello, my name is Graham and I make a living pretending to look like Will Young...."

John's car (Graveyard666) getting some welly while Will Young captures some stats with a datalogger

"Does anyone know how to work this damn thing?"

Now we have Geoff (Millbank) who's car actually has a Mk1 engine installed. Geoff is building up a new engine which should be the mutts nutts apparently!

One of the guys that helped make up the numbers was a Celica GT4 owner, and he put in a very respectable 272bhp - in fact he was chuffed to bits and I don't blame him

We didn't actually see the Viper running on the road, although the guys reckon it'll clock up in excess of 750bhp!

The road is rated at 1200bhp max, so that should give DMC something to aim for when "The Hulk" is finally ready.

Bootiful!

"Take two bottles into the shower? I just want to whoosh and go!" ;-)

Propane and NOS injection (eat your heart out Canker!)

Burble burble burble.

Now I know what I want for Christmas!
